People are injured or killed all across America, and around the world on our highways by those who are either careless, or just are not paying attention to the task at hand….Driving.

EXAMPLE #1

Just the other day, I was behind a girl who was driving a bit erractically. She was going a bit slow and was all over her lane…and she was in front of me. The time came for her to make a left turn and I was able to pass her just as she got into the left turn lane. I wasn’t at all surprised to see her phone in her right hand being up next to, but a littler lower than the center part of her of steering wheel. Her focus… was not on driving, but on her phone.

EXAMPLE #2

A day or so later, I was turning left to get onto the Interstate on ramp, and this intersection had two lanes because this was and is a heavy traffic intersection. I was in the right lane of those two lanes. Traffic coming from the other side had a yield sign, but the driver coming from that direction didn’t have a clue he was supposed to yield, even though a full two lanes of traffic was moving through his upcoming path. He came right on into my lane, where I was. I could tell he wasn’t paying attention and avoided an accident by carefully manuevering and braking, all the while blowing my horn at his idiot. He thought I was at fault and started honking at me.

Accidents are called accidents for a reason. Accidents happen when people just are not paying attention to what they are doing. Almost all accidents are preventable, if only people WOULD pay attention.

I’ve offered two examples of what happened to me on the road recently. There were several others, and I should have written them down, but those two stood out and I made a mental note that I was going to blog about those two…they happen all the time. I see countless examples of careless driving. I’m getting set up to start video tapping some of this crazy stuff, so stay tuned in the near future to see a few videos here and there.

Together, we can help to prevent the loss of life. Won’t you join me?

It’s better to prevent the loss of life than to grieve the loss of life!

Let your actions prove that you agree. Doing nothing simply means that you have chosen the latter half of that statement by default.

There are some days that I just wonder what people are thinking when they are behind the wheel of a car. I only say this because it is obvious some of those who are driving certainly do not have their mind on the task at hand. I recently witnessed an example of this very thing.

My in-laws came to visit one weekend (they live two hours away), and we went out to eat. A few details are fuzzy here, as we went to a buffet and I completely stuffed my face and spent the next couple of hours in total misery. The detail that I am fuzzy over is whether this happened on the way to the restaurant, or on the way home. Oh, ok….since you asked, I’ll tell you what happened.

I was driving along, driving defensively as I always do (you have to these days) and up ahead I noticed a car pulling out of a gas station. He was coming from my right, and was crossing the road to travel in the lane coming toward me. He had “plenty” of time to pull out and get into the on-coming lane of traffic and I knew that I wasn’t going to have to give him one ounce of brain power in having to make any decisions as to whether or not I might have to take any driving action on my part…or so I thought.

He exited the gas station, but he forgot he had an accelerator. Obviously he took his foot off of the brake, then just ever so slowly drifted across my two lanes. A turtle could have made it across the road faster. He had plenty of time to get across without affecting any of the traffic approaching him from our side. But…if I would not have applied my brakes and dropped my speed down to the point that I thought I was going to have to stop, I would have plowed right into his drivers side door.

Back to my original point…WHAT was he thinking? Why pull out so slow that people almost have to stop to miss him? He had more than ample time to get across the road safely, actually, several cars had time to get across, but I almost had to stop to avoid hitting him. Was this intentional driving behavior? Does he drive like this all the time? I have a lot of unanswered questions. It’s just lucky for that Iwas paying attention. Let’s just suppose that I would have been distracted by something just as he was pulling out. Wait, he had so much time to get across the road that I still would have been able to avoid hitting him. The point here though is that this should have never happened.

If we are going to get behind the wheel of a car, we should give some thought as to what we are doing while we are driving. I used to work on cars many years ago. I trained by working with a neighbor for several years after school before going to school for two years to become a mechanic. My neighbor was and is a wonderful man, a man of common sense and of excellent character. On rare occasion someone would bring in a car that didn’t seem to have anything wrong with it. I remember him saying more than once…“the only thing wrong with this car is the nut between the seat and the steering wheel.” Recently, those words rang out oh so true!

I was out driving recently…yep, it happens.

As usual, all I have to do is wait, and the unexpected will happen. I was driving on a road with 2 lanes in each direction with a center turning lane. The 2 lanes I was in forked like a “Y,” and the top side of the “Y” had two lanes on each side as well, and just before the split, we actually had 4 lanes for a moment.

But wait…a mini-van in the far left lane realized that the right lane was the place he/she to be, as they really did want to turn right at the “Y.” But they were in the left lane….I said that already, right?

There was traffic around, but not too much, but enough that when this person (I am so tempted to use that word “Idiot”) in the left lane realized way to late the mistake they had made, they just stopped right where they were, and very slowly (1 mph) attempted to work their way across all 4 lanes of traffic so that they could get to where they wanted to go. Everyone had to stop for this idiot.

Oooops, I said it, didn’t I?

Solution…

How about next time, don’t stop right in the middle of the road.
You made one mistake, don’t compound it by making another.
THIS is what causes accidents.
This is why people get hurt…OR DIE…because IDIOTS make one mistake after another and do stupid things on the road.

Don’t stop when you make a mistake, just go to the next available place where you can turn around and come back. YES>>> it really is that easy. I’ve done it many times. But no, this person was right in front of me…MrRoadRage, and now is the topic of my discussion today.

I could be in your city one day, and you could wind up doing
something stupid on the highway and wind up being on this blog.
I was in 3 different states just last week.

Will you be next to be featured here on the MrRoadRage Blog?
Ya Never Know…

I may start carrying a camera and taking a picture of YOUR CAR
when you do something that causes me to feature you here on this blog.

NOTE: Since writing this, I have decided to use my video camera,

This should be FUN!

It seems like everyday we jump in the car and rush off to…somewhere, to work, the grocery store, to meet a friend, run an errand, or shuttle the kids to some place because they have more extra-curricular activities than us adults do. The list is unending, but what isn’t unending is the fact that almost every adventure behind the wheel causes us to somehow come upon that one idiot who is driving at the same time as we are. Just where do they come from?

And then there are those days when…there are two idiots out,
and they are both in front of you and/or me and they are driving side
by side. What’s up with that anyway? Oh, did I fail to mention that
they are driving much slower than anyone else, holding up this
incredibly long line of traffic. We all know that this is intentional,
but if we get out our bazooka and blow them off the highways.
HEY WAIT, that’s Illegal. Darn.

Oh, the fantasies.

Allow me to share some of these fantasies. Allow me to blow off a
bit of steam. Allow me to connect to your world of driving, a world
where we all hope the highways may some day be full of PERFECT DRIVERS, but
reality somehow just won’t let that happen. I don’t know about you, but
I’m more than a bit tired of witnessing this thing we are coming to
know as “road rage.”

Welcome to MrRoadRage.com …an online interactive experience!
This site isn’t exactly what you may be expecting. We’re not all about
venting and blowing off steam. That may help for the moment, but it
certainly doesn’t help solve the real problem, it doesn’t get rid of that
little thing we call road rage.

This site is all about saving lives on our highways!
I bet…when you leave for work, or just to go out and have some fun,
you are hoping/expecting to get back home safe and sound. Yeah, me
too. So stick around…because lots of people don’t get home safely…and
this site has one mission…to help change that fact.

You won’t want to miss what is coming. Sign up for or mailing list and
keep updated. And don’t forget to bookmark this site before you leave,
and please…tell all of your friends, and your enemies about MrRoadRage.com!

NO MORE ROAD RAGE! Yeah, I just had to say it!
